The Zimbabwe Rugby Union was this afternoon given the authority to resume training and competitive matches. This comes after months of waiting after the Union applied for permission to resume training and competitive games. The ZRU Chief Executive Officer Mr Sifiso Made said they applied to the Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation Honorable Kirsty Coventry and the Sports governing body, the Sports and Recreation Commission for authority to resume training in light of the Covid-19 restrictions.
He added that the Union satisfied itself that they will be able to uphold and follow all the medically informed return to rugby action protocols as set out by World Rugby and ensure regular and consistent disinfection of all rugby facilities to be used by players, officials and ancillary staff hence the application to the Minister and the SRC.
Mr Made said that “… as a Union and a sport code we are delighted to finally be going back to the rugby field after the six months layoff due to Covid-19. We will continue to observe the Covid-19 prevention protocols and at present we are now just waiting for our Medical Committee to finalize the safe to return to play Protocols”.
